5 Fun ideas for Halloween in Monadnock

Here at Discover Monadnock we have been getting in the Halloween spirit with our post about the 4 most spinechilling haunted places in the region as well as revisiting our post about Madam Sherri’s haunted forest.  To keep with the Halloween theme we thought we would highlight some of the awesome events going on in Monadnock on Halloween.

Here’s oust list of fun ideas for Halloween in Monadnock:

1. Spooky Stories Told by the Fire at The Monadnock Center

On Halloween, the Monadnock Center, in Peterborough, NH  will be telling scary stories in the Phoenix Mill House by the fire. There will be two storytelling sessions at 5:30 and 7 pm. While enjoying hot cider, guests will hear about the sighting of the devil in Peterborough, a girl bewitched by a woman from Hancock, a haunted house in Keene, and other odd and unexplained things in our community’s past.

Fittingly, this is not a children’s program and is most suitable for people 13 and up. Tickets are $15 ($12 for members) and they can be bought at the center, 19 Grove Street or at http://MonadnockCenter.org. Hearing some of the most frightening stories in the gorgeous brick center with some cider seems like a great way to spend this Halloween.

2. Tannhauser: Met Live at the Colonial Theater

The Met Live in HD are live high-definition performance streams of the Metropolitan Opera in New York. This stream which the Colonial will present at noon on Halloween. Tannhauser, the famous opera by Richard Wagner, will be conducted by James Levine.

Tannhauser tells the story of Tannhauser, a 13th century singer, who is imprisoned in Venusberg. The play begins with Tennhauser to Venus for his release. His wish ends up being granted and he returns to Wartburg Castle in Eisenach, where years earlier he had lost a prestigious singing contests. Upon hearing that Tannhauser has returned a maiden in the court, Elizabeth, decides to hold another singing contest, this time with her hand in marriage as the prize: remarkable storytelling and harmonies ensue.

A masterpiece of an opera performed by some of the best singers in the world makes Tannhauser well worth the trip to the center of Keene to see. You can buy tickets, $25 for adults ($22 for members and $15 for students) at http://thecolonial.org.

3. Waxy’s Halloween Party with the Ticket

Waxy O’Connor’s the area’s favorite Irish pub in Keene, NH will be having a Halloween Party with The Ticket, a New Hampshire Dance and Rock Band. Waxy’s will be having prizes for Most Creative, Best Individual, Best Group and Creepiest Leprechaun costumes. With the chance for so many great costumes and a great band, Waxy’s could be a great place to spend Halloween.

4. Harlow’s Halloween Party with Two Bands

If you live closer to Peterborough, NH then Hawlow’s Pub may be the Halloween Party for you. Like Waxy’s Harlows will be having a costume competition and other unnamed surprises as well as two bands The Youngest Sun and The Van Burens. With two fun funky, rock bands, tons of dancing and a collective of creative costumes, Harlow’s will be sure to be a fun place on Halloween.

 5. Trick or Treat on the Town

Trick or Treat on the Town is a TEAM Jaffrey a family event in Jaffrey, NH. TEAM Jaffrey’s annual Halloween event brings together over 30 downtown merchants and families for a fun-filled, safe Halloween trick-or-treat experience. The event starts at 3 pm and goes to 5 pm. If you are looking for a place to ensure your kids get lots of candy on the day, Jaffrey just might be the place for you.
