There is lots of music to be heard this month, and Valentine’s weekend covers a wide range of genres and venues. Here are four from around the region; guaranteed to meet your style and your budget.
Yes, punk music is alive and well in the Monadnock region! Zombie Beatdown’s music is fast, upbeat, and full of good humor – a fine introduction to the local punk scene. Bassist Eric Hedin organizes shows throughout the year, often with holiday themes. The Punk Rock Valentine Massacrealso includes The Burnouts, Lobotomobile and Monster Machine. Free admission.
Sunflowers Restaurant offers artistically prepared meals and libations, with music accompaniment for Sunday brunch and Friday dinner. This weekend, there will be even more music, including a repertoire of folk, blues and jazz standards by Diane Stolar and John Sepe on Saturday. Expect rich vocals accompanied by guitars for a night of songs rooted in love.
The Monadnock Center for History and Culture hosts an annual Valentine’s Day concert in its acoustically superior Bass Hall. This year, pianist Virginia Eskin, guitarist Jose Lezcano and mezzo- soprano Jazimina MacNeil perform a program of classical and contemporary music in celebration of love. Tickets are $18; $15 for members, students and seniors.
