PETERBOROUGH, NH- The fire will be burning in the Phoenix Mill House for an evening of spooky stories at the Monadnock Center for History and Culture on Friday, October 30. Two storytelling sessions will be presented at 5:30 and 7 PM. This evening of local stories from the dark side will feature tales of witches, ghosts, murder, and eerie happenings in the Monadnock region. Hear about the sighting of the devil in Peterborough, a girl bewitched by a woman from Hancock, a haunted house in Keene, and other odd and unexplained things in our community’s past.
Guests will enjoy hot cider and a chance to experience the Phoenix Mill House as it would have been on an autumn evening over a century ago. Located behind the Monadnock Center’s main building, the Phoenix Mill House was an overseer’s home for the Phoenix Mill, a large textile mill at the corner of Main and Grove Streets in Peterborough. The mill house is now a demonstration and education space interpreting life in a 1830s mill town.
This is not a children’s program and is suitable for ages 13 and up. Seating in the mill house is very limited and tickets must be purchased in advance.
