Watch history come alive in MoCo Arts’ Storytime Theatre production of The MoCo Minutemen on Sunday, June 12 with performances at 2:00 & 4:00pm in the MoCo Arts Black Box Theatre in Keene.
In 1775, Isaac Wyman and twenty-nine Keene Minutemen gathered at the Wyman Tavern to march at the beginning of the Revolutionary War. Based on this time of change in American History, The MoCo Minutemen is an historical fiction, family-friendly musical, featuring the faces and stories of Keene during this time.
“Keene is a city with a fascinating history,” says Danielle Fitzpatrick, Artistic Director of Young Arts at MoCo Arts, and Writer/Director of The MoCo Minutemen. “Song and dance is a powerful way to teach young children about the vibrant history of our community. We hope that audiences will enjoy this musical take on Keene’s part in the Revolutionary War.”
MoCo Arts will collaborate with the Historical Society of Cheshire County to bring the music, dance, costumes, and history of the Revolutionary War, and its close ties to Keene to life. The performance will also feature live music from local musicians Hunt and Allison, who specialize in traditional music of old New England.
“The arts are a vital part of a child’s education,” says Allison Aldrich of Hunt and Allison. “The arts teach children to think creatively, solve problems, express feelings, and work collaboratively.”
Storytime Theatre is MoCo’s musical Theatre class for children ages 4 years through 2nd grade. Students learn lines, cues and stage direction then perform a fully produced musical at the end of each semester.
