Adult Pottery Class at The Jaffrey Civic Center
The Jaffrey Civic Center is pleased to announce that local artist, Shana Brautigam of “Rooted in Clay” will be offering a Hand-building Pottery Class for Adults beginning Tuesday, April 26th. There will be a total of 4 classes (4/26, 5/3, 5/10, 5/24) which will be held Tuesdays from 10 am to 12 noon in the upstairs art classroom of the Jaffrey Civic Center with the final class to be held in Rindge at Rooted in Clay studio. Students will learn to pinch, stretch, roll, coil, and hand-sculpt the clay into many different shaped pots. Surface design will be explored through the use of stamps and natural textures to imprint into the clay. Students will have the opportunity to make bowls, mugs, vases, and pots with lids. This class is great for beginners, or those who have had experience with clay. Materials will be provided by the instructor. The cost is $120. Space is limited to 12 students. Shana Brautigam owns and operates “Rooted in Clay” pottery studio in Rindge. She has been creating pots there and teaching classes since 2003. Shana specializes in hand-built, wood-fired pottery. She often uses leaves, ferns, and tree bark to press into the clay, creating beautiful, nature inspired, one of a kind pieces. Shana creates a variety of functional work, including mugs, bowls, teapots, vases, etc. She also makes clay instruments, such as horns, ocarinas (whistles), didgeridoos, and xylophones. Shana teaches a number of pottery making classes at her studio in Rindge, and sometimes goes into school to lead special artist residency programs. Her pottery is available locally at Hannah Grimes in Keene and the Sharon Arts Center in Peterborough.
