Hosts Congressional Art Competition Reception and Awards Ceremony

Manchester, NH (March 29, 2016)— New Hampshire Institute of Art (NHIA) is pleased to announce that they will be hosting the District 1 Congressional Art Competition Reception and Awards Ceremony with Representative Frank Guinta on May 3, 2016 at 4-7 PM. The event will be held at NHIA’s French Building Auditorium, 148 Concord St, Manchester, NH.

Each spring, the Congressional Institute sponsors a nationwide high school visual art competition to recognize and encourage artistic talent in the nation and in each congressional district. Since the Artistic Discovery competition began in 1982, more than 650,000 high school students have participated.

Students submit entries to their representative’s office, and panels of district artists select the winning entries. Winners are recognized both in their district and at an annual awards ceremony in Washington, DC. The winning works are displayed for one year at the U.S. Capitol.

“We are thrilled to be hosting this event at New Hampshire Institute of Art,” said Kent Devereaux, President of NHIA. “It’s important to showcase and encourage artistic talent. I’m looking forward to meeting the participants and viewing their work.”

NHIA is offering scholarships to high school seniors who are selected as Congressional Art Competition winners and enroll in their Bachelor of Fine Arts program. NHIA is also offering scholarships to high school sophomore and junior Congressional Art Competition winners who attend their summer Pre-College program.

In addition, NHIA Alumnus and Senior Admissions Counselor, Matt Smigiel has been asked to participate in judging the work submitted at the Congressional Art Competition being hosted by District 2 Representative Ann Kuster.
